The Nathaniel Lyon, Post No. 5, Grand Army of the Republic, Department of Colorado and Wyoming, was active in Boulder from 1881 to 1940. The Charter for a Grand Army Post to be located in Boulder Colorado was granted on 30 March 1881 to 42 petitioners. Thirty five of the 42 petitioners were mustered into the GAR on 09 Apr 1881; the remaining seven, not being able to attend, were mustered at subsequent meetings.
