The headstone was raised 13 inches, set on 8 x 12 x 2.5 inch 'fired' bricks footing, leveled, and plumbed.Company D, 121th New York Infantry. Died 22 Jan 1905 Thomas Austin enlisted as a Private on 30Aug1862 at 28 years of age at Potsdam, NY. Thomas Austin served 8.5 months in Company F of the 16th NY INF and 25 months in Company D of the 121st NY INF; 30Aug1862 to 11May1863 and 11May1863 to 25Jun1865, respectively. Thomas Austin was transferred to the 121st New York Infantry on 11May1863. On 22May1863 the 16th NY INF regiment was mustered out on the expiration of their term at Albany, NY. The three years' men were transferred to 121st New York Infantry. Thomas Austin was mustered out on 25Jun1865 at Hall's Hill, VA While Thomas Austin was in service, the 16th NY Infantry regiment was engaged in the following battles which had a direct and decisive influence on a campaign and / or a direct impact on the course of the war: The 16th NY Infantry regiment shared the hardships and discomforts of Gen.
