Thomas Austin enlisted as a Private on 30Aug1862 at 28 years of age at Potsdam, NY. Thomas Austin served 8.5 months in Company F of the 16th NY INF and 25 months in Company D of the 121st NY INF; 30Aug1862 to 11May1863 and 11May1863 to 25Jun1865, respectively. Thomas Austin was transferred to the 121st New York Infantry on 11May1863. On 22May1863 the 16th NY INF regiment was mustered out on the expiration of their term at Albany, NY. The three years' men were transferred to 121st New York Infantry.
