Pvt. Zachariah Bradfield; Co.H, 21st Missouri Infantry; died 21Jan1915
The headstone was set on 8 x 12 x 2.5 inch 'fired' bricks footing, leveled, and plumbed.
Due to subsidence, the headstone was tilted ( pitched ) backward ~ 11 degrees and tilted ( rolled )
to the left ~ 5 degrees.Zachariah Bradfield enlisted as a Private and was mustered into Company H, 21st Missouri Infantry on 27Feb1864 at 18 years of age at Hannibel, MO. Zachariah Bradfield served 26 months in Company H of the 21st Missouri Infantry; 27Feb1864 to 19Apr1866. Zachariah Bradfield was mustered out 19 Apr 1866 While Zachariah Bradfield was in service, the 21st Missouri Infantry regiment was engaged in the following battles which had a direct impact on the course of the war and / or a decisive influence on a campaign: Coincidentally, Zachariah Bradfield and my great-grandfather, SGT. James R. Box, Company D, 14th Regiment, Texas Calvary, were opposing combatants in [Union] Maj. Gen. E.R.S. Canby�s Mobile Campaign. Sergeant James R. Box was captured in the battle of Spanish Fort which preceded the battle of Fort Blakely.
