Private John R. Corey, Co. C, 19th Mich Infantry; died 13Oct1907; 64.3 years of age.
New US Department of Veterans' Affairs 'American Civil War' marker. Set on 8 x 12 x 2.5 inch 'fired' bricks footing, leveled, and plumbed. John R. Corey enlisted as a Private on 06Aug1862 at 19 years of age at Coldwater, Mich. He was mustered into Company K , 19th Mich Infantry, on 05Sept1862. He later transferred to Company C, inter-regiment transfer. John R. Corey served more than 20 months in 19th Mich Infantry; 05Sept1862 to 01May1864. John R. Corey transferred into the Veteran Reserve Corps on 01May1864. The date and method of discharge from service not given. While John R. Corey was in service, the 19th Mich Infantry regiment was engaged in one serious engagement at Thompson's Station, Tenn., 04-05Mar1863 in which many of the regiment were captured. After the officers were exchanged and the enlisted men paroled, the 19th Mich Infantry regiment was reorganized at Camp Chase, Ohio during June1863. Then, the regiment was employed on the fortification about McMinnville, Tenn., building bridges and block houses until May1864.
