New US Department of Veterans' Affairs 'American Civil War' marker. Set on 10 x 13 x 2.5 inch dimensioned stone footing, leveled, and plumbed. [ Dimension sandstone provided by Tribble Stone, Boulder, CO 80302. ] John N. Ives enlisted on 16Oct1861 as a Private. JNI was discharged for disability on 02Jun1862 at Roanoke Island, NC. While JNI was in service, the NY 89th INF was stationed in the defenses of Washington, DC, for a few weeks and, then, became part of Gen. Burnside's expeditionary corps in North Carolina.
