The headstone was raised 2 inches, set on 10 x 12 x 2 inch dimensioned stone footing, Company I, 12th Pennsylvania Infantry. Died 30 July 1899. leveled, and plumbed. The headstone, as found, was pitched forward ~ 9 degrees and rolled to the north ~ 8.5 degrees. George w. Tanner enlisted as a Captain on 25 April Feb 1861 in Harrisburg, Penn. He was commissioned into Company I, 12th Pennsylvania Infantry regiment on 25 April 1861. George w. Tanner served 3 months in the 12th Pennsylvania Infantry; 25 April 1861 to 05 August 1861. 12th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment The 12th Pennsylvania Infantry regiment was organized at Pittsburg on 22 April 1861 and removed to Harrisburg, Penn., on April 24. On 25 April 1861, the regiment was mustered into the service of the United States as a 3-month enlistment and immediately departed for Camp Scott, near the town of York, for a training. On 25 May, the regiment was position for guard duty along the Northern Central railroad between the Pennsylvania-Maryland border and Baltimore. The regimental headquarters was at Cockeysville, Maryland. The regiment did not engaged with hostile forces. George W. Tanner, and the regiment, was mustered out on 05 August 1861 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Sources |
