Horace Andrus enlisted as a Private on 14 Mar 1865. He was mustered on Company E, 72nd Indiana Infantry regiment on 14 Mar 1865. He transferred to Company I, 44th Indiana Infantry regiment on 01 July 1865. He served 3.5 months in the 72nd Indiana Infantry regiment and 2.5 months in the 44th Indiana Infantry regiment; 14 Mar 1865. to 01 July 1865 and 01 July 1865 to 14 Sept 1865, respectively. When Horace Andrus was in service, the 72nd Indiana Infantry regiment participated in Wilson's [Cavalry] Raid from Chickasaw, Alabama., to Macon, Georgia., 22 Mar - 24 Apr 1865, which resulted in the capture of Selma and Montgomery, Alabama., and Columbus and Macon, Georgia. The 72nd Indiana Infantry participated in the pursuit of Jeff Davis 06 - 10 May 1865. The regiment was mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee, on 26 June 1865; at which time, Horace Andrus transferred to the 44th Indiana Infantry.
