Private Richard D. Ball,
Company G, 1st West Virginia Infantry. Died 03 Aug 1905; ~ 65 years of age. Richard D. Ball enlisted as a Private in Company H of the 1st West Virginia Infantry [3 months' service] on 16 May 1861. After expiration of his 3 months' term of service, He re-enlisted as a Private in Company G of the 1st West Virginia Infantry [3 years' service] on 30 Oct 1861. On 10 Dec 1864, Richard D. Ball and other soldiers of the 1st West Virginia and 4th West Virginia Infantry regminents were formed into the 2nd West Virginia Veteran Volunteers Regiment, also know as: Veterans Reserve Corps or Invalid Corps. Richard D. Ball served for 41 months in the 1st WVirg Infantry and 5 months in the 2nd WVirg Veterans Reserve Corps; 16 May 1861 to 27 Aug 1861 and 30 Oct 1861 to 10 Dec 1864, 10 Dec 1864 to 23 May 1865, respectively. When Richard D. Ball was in service, the 1st West Virginia Infantry was engaged in the following battles which had a direct and decisive influence on a campaign and / or a direct impact on the course of the war: Richard D. The headstone was lower 2 inches, set on 10 x 12 x 2.5 inch dimensioned stone footing, leveled, and plumbed on 30 May 2002. [ Dimension sandstone provided by Tribble Stone, Boulder, CO 80302. ] Due to subsidence and having intially been set too shallow, the headstone was tilted [pitched] forward ~ 12 degrees. |
