Company D, 3rd Colorado Cavalry. Died 11 May 1920; 86.9 years of age. Name reported as Watson Beach in both Historical Data Systems and US National Park Service CWSSS databases. Name reported as Watson Brach in Colorado State Archive Colorado Volunteers [1861-1865 ] Transcript of Records Index. Inscription on family monument has been modified [background stone and hence letters scoped out] to reduce given names to Watson. David Watson Beach enlisted on 01 Sept 1864 as a Private in Denver, Colorado, at age 30 years. He served a 100 day enlistment in Colorado 3rd Cavalry; 01 Sept 1864 to 31 Dec 1864. While D. Watson Beach was in service, the 3rd Colorado Cavalry regiment engaged in the Sand Creek Massacre in which about 150 Cheyenne and Arapaho people, mainly women, children, and the elderly were killed.
