    Confederate Army Death Rate
An estimated 260,000 Confederate soldiers died in service; ~ 32.5 % of the 750,000 to 850,000 men who served in the Confederate Army.

    Of these
  • ~ 120,000 were killed in battle or died from wounds received in battle; ~ 10.8 % of total served

My Confederate ancestors were more fortunate than the Confederate Army; they achieved a higher survival rate. Six died in service; 22.2% compared to ~ 32.5 % for the total Confederate Army.
  • 02 were killed in battle or died from battle wounds; 07.4% compared to the CSA ~ 10.8 %

    Union Army Death Rate
The percentage of Union solider that died in service is about one-half that the Confederate soldiers.
I have identified only 03 ancestors, Richardson brothers, who served in the Union Army.

Two of the three died of disease in November 1862, in the 9th month of their service, in the 8th Missouri State Militia Cavalry Regiment.

Their brother, the other Union soldier, survived the war, emigrated to Oregon, and died there on 15 Aug 1908.
