1st Sergeant Charles E. Hardy, 9th Indiana Infantry
Charles E. Hardy enlisted as a Private on 05 Sept 1861; his residence was given as South Bend IND. He was mustered into Company 'I' of the Indiana 9th Infantry Regiment 05 Sept 1861. He served more than 48 months in the 9th Indiana Infantry, 05 Sept 1861 to 28 Sept 1865. While Charles E. Hardy was in service, the 9th Indiana Infantry regiment was engaged in the following battles that had a direct impact on the course of the war and / or a decisive influence on a campaign: Charles E. Hardy was promoted to Sergeant and then 1st Sergeant; dates not given. Charles E. Hardy re-enlisted on 12 December 1863. After the surrender of the CSA armies, the 9th IND INF was sent to Louisiana [June 1865] and Texas [July-Sept 1865], as part of Sheridan's army of occupation. Charles E.
