Private Conrad L. Westerman, Company B, 108th Illinois Infantry
Conrad L. Westerman enlisted as a Private on 12 August 1862. He was mustered into Company 'B' of the Illinois 108th Infantry Regiment on 28 August 1862. He served more than 35 months in the 117th New York Infantry, 13 August 1862 to 08 June 1865. While Conrad L. Westerman was in service, the 108th Illinois Infantry regiment was engaged in the following battles that had a direct impact on the course of the war and / or a decisive influence on a campaign: Conrad L. Westerman was mustered out on 05 Aug 1865 at Vicksburg, Miss. Coincidentally, Conrad L. Westerman and my great-grand-father, Sgt. James R. Box, Company D, 14th Regiment, Texas Calvary, were opposing combatants in [Union] Maj. Gen. E.R.S. Canby’s Mobile Campaign. Sergeant James R. Box was captured in the battle of Spanish Fort. Sources |
