The headstone was lowered 3 inches, leveled, and plumbed.

Rocks, a boulder, and hard, rocky ground was encountered. The headstone was set a little east and a little south of the intended location. No footing was added.

The headstone was originally set too high and was tilted [pitched] forward ~ 17 degrees.


John Davis enlisted as a Private and was mustered into Company H, 36th Iowa Infantry, on 15Jan1864 at 19 years of age. He served 19 months in into Company H, 36th Iowa Infantry, 15Jan1864 to 24Aug65.

John Davis was mustered out on 24Aug65 at Devall's Bluff, Ark.

While John Davis was in service, the 36th Iowa Infantry regiment was engaged in the battle of Prairie D'Ane, Ark., 09 - 13 Apr 1864 which had a decisive influence on a campaign.
