Set on 10 x 13 x 2.5 inch dimensioned stone footing, leveled, and plumbed.

William A. Elliot enlisted on 19Aug1864 as a Private at age 22. WAE served a 100 day enlistment in Colorado 3rd Cavalry; 19Aug1864 to 30DecAug1864.

While William A. Elliot was in service, the COLO 3rd CAV engaged in the Sand Creek Massacre in which about 150 Cheyenne and Arapaho people, mainly women, children, and the elderly were killed. An infamous event in Colorado history.
