John N. Ives enlisted on 16Oct1861 as a Private. JNI was discharged for disability on 02Jun1862 at Roanoke Island, NC. While JNI was in service, the NY 89th INF was stationed in the defenses of Washington, DC, for a few weeks and, then, became part of Gen. Burnside's expeditionary corps in North Carolina.
