Aaron McGraw enlisted as a Private on 02Jan1864 at 31 years of age at Greenwood, NY. He was mustered into Company A , 05th NY Heavy Artillery on 05Jan1864. He served more than 5 months in Company A, 05th NY Heavy Artillery; Jan1864 to Jun1864.

While Aaron McGraw was in service, the 5th NY Hvy Arty regiment was engaged in the following battles which had a direct impact on the course of the war and / or a decisive influence on a campaign:
  • New Market, Va., 15 May 1864
  • Lynchburg, Va., 17-18 June 1864
