The headstone was raised 6 inches, set on 10 x 12 x 2 inch dimensioned sandstone footing, leveled, and plumbed.

Due to subsidence, the headstone was tilted [ pitched ] forward ~ 08 degrees and tilted [ rolled ] to the south ~06 degrees. The grade before the headstone was raised 3 inches.


John N. Williams enlisted as a Sergent on 11August1862 at 23 years of age. He was mustered into Company I, 73th Ill Infantry on 21August1862. He served more than 03 months in Company I, 73th Ill Infantry; 21August1862 to 26Nov1862.

John N. Williams was discharged for disability on 26Nov1862.

While John N. Williams was in service, the 73th Ill Infantry regiment was engaged in the battle of
  • Perryville, Ky., 08Oct1862
    which had a decisive influence on a campaign and a direct impact on the course of the war.
