Thomas Austin served 8.5 months in Company F of the 16th New York Infantry and 25 months in Company D of the 121st New York Infantry; 30 Aug 1862 to 11 May 1863 and 11 May 1863 to 25 Jun 1865, respectively.

Thomas Austin was transferred to the 121st New York Infantry on 11 May 1863. On 22 May 1863, the 16th New York Infantry regiment was mustered out on the expiration of their term at Albany, NY. The three years' men were transferred to 121st New York Infantry.

Thomas Austin was mustered out on 25Jun1865 at Hall's Hill, Virginia.
