Edward Bard enlisted as a Private in Company E of the 2nd Colorado Infantry in Dec1861. Edward Bard and other soldiers of the incomplete 2nd Colorado Infantry and the 3rd Colorado Infantry were formed in to the 2nd Colorado Cavalry in Nov1863. Edward Bard served as a Private in Company C of the 2nd Colorado Cavalry until 23Sept1865.

Edward Bard served for 23 months in the 2nd Colorado Infantry and 22 months in the 2nd Colorado Cavalry; Dec1861 to Nov1863 and Nov1863 to Sept1865, respectively.

While Edward Bard was in service, the of 2nd Colorado Infantry was posted at Fort Union, New Mexico, in April 1862, where they took part in actions against Navajo Indians as well as Confederate guerillas. The 2nd Colorado Infantry performed duty at:
  • Fort Lyon, Denver, and Fort Garland, Colorado
  • Camp Scott and Camp Leroy, Kansas
  • Fort Gibson, Indian Territory

    Edward Bard
    The headstone was lower 6 inches, set on 10 x 12 x 2.5 inch dimensioned stone footing, leveled, and plumbed.
    [ Dimension sandstone provided by Tribble Stone, Boulder, CO 80302. ]

    Due to having initially been set too shallow, the headstone was both tilted [pitched] backward ~ 11 degrees and tilted [rolled] to the north ~ 12 degrees.
