David S. Spicer enlisted as a Private on 18Sept1861 at 32 years of age. He was mustered into Company E, 04th Iowa Cavalry and served more than 46 months, 18Sept1961 to 08Aug1865. While David S. Spicer was in service, the 4th IOWA CAV was engaged in the following battles which had a direct and decisive influence on a campaign and / or a direct impact on the course of the war: Note: the Battle of Columbus, Georgia, on Easter Sunday, 16 April 1865, is considered to be the last battle of the American Civil War by some historians. David S. Spicer was promoted to Farrier on 01 Oct 1863 and re-enlisted on 14Dec1863. David S.
